CAPE Users' Group Week June 22-26

Advanced Registration Extended to May 25

The annual CAPE Users’ Group Meeting Week includes the one-day protection seminar, two-day CAPE Users' Group Meeting, and two days of CAPE training. We promise an exceptional opportunity to expand your knowledge of system protection, learn the latest about CAPE, guide CAPE’s future development, and meet with colleagues from other companies and countries.

One online registration form covers all three events: the protection seminar, two-day Users’ Group Meeting, and the two training days.

The CAPE Users' Group Meeting brings together a wonderful group of protection engineering experts. The atmosphere is informal, interactive, and enjoyable. A sampling of UGM comments from recent years:

..."Very good technical presentations that encourage questions, discussion, and exchange of information."
..."Bring your questions and take advantage of the expertise of staff and users."
..."Very informative."
..."Real case studies are the best way to learn."
..."An excellent experience; I would encourage everyone to attend."
..."Well worth the time and money."
..."This is the best users group you could attend."
..."Change absolutely nothing."
..."Best conference I attend each year!"
..."It would be hard to improve."

Professional Training Credit

The CAPE Users' Group Meeting is an excellent way to work toward your continuing education credits needed to keep your professional engineer certification. Each full day session offers .75 CEU credits. If you attend the entire week, including the optional seminar on Monday, you can earn 3.75 CEU credits. There is no additional charge to receive credit although you must indicate that you wish to receive credit when you complete your online registration.

CAPE Users' Group Meeting

8:30 a.m – 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 23-24

$395 by May 25 (includes 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and dinner on Tuesday evening) (After May 25, $495)

This two-day session is eligible for 1.5 continuing education units.

We have been developing new features and tools that will let CAPE do more for you and will help you with more of the real-world problems you face daily. Topics we plan to present include:

    • Support for recently approved PRC-026 standard
    • Modeling FIDS logic in SEL relays
    • Building block macro for finding min/max currents and apparent Z
    • Tutorial on modeling detailed bus structures
    • Emerging standard for sharing network data:  CIM XML
    • Automatic relay setting:  the Fingrid implementation
    • Implementation of xfmr damage curves modeled like TOC relay elements
    • Update on Electrocon’s current R&D projects
    • Many useful new macros

In addition to presenting the work we have been doing, we have invited a few CAPE users to present their accomplishments; plus we always want to hear your ideas on how you would like to see CAPE develop in the future.

    CAPE Training

CAPE training classes will be held on Thursday and Friday, June 25-26. This is a great way for current users to extend their CAPE skills and for new users to get the “big picture” quickly. You can sign up in half-day increments. Please bring your own laptop and, if you like, your own database. $395/day ($250/half-day) by May 25; includes continental breakfast (am) and lunch (pm). Each full-day session is eligible for .75 continuing education units. (After May 25, $495/day or $300/half-day.)

Choose your topics when you register. Each topic is a half-day class except "CAPE for new users," which is a whole day. Don't worry about when your topic will be scheduled; just pick the topics you need. We will create a class schedule in early June, based on the classes requested. Below are examples of previous topics that have been covered during previous CAPE Training sessions.

    • CAPE for new users (1 full day - covers Database Editor, Short Circuit, One-Line Diagram, and Coordination Graphics)
    • Modeling detailed bus structures and open-ended lines with OL
    • Using Coordination Graphics and its special displays
    • System Simulator and Relay Checking including pilot protection
    • Introduction to writing macros
    • Introduction to ready-to-use Relay Setting algorithms
    • Modeling transformers, neutral buses, neutral networks
    • Breaker duty analysis
    • Data compare, merge, and management techniques
    • Modeling transmission lines with Line Constants
    • Introduction to SQL and associated reporting

The deadline for this room rate is May 25. After this date, the Marriott will accept reservations if rooms are available, but the group rate will not apply. (If you prefer to stay at another hotel in Ann Arbor and can taxi or rent a car to get to the meeting, we will be happy to send you recommendations.)

    How to get here

If you travel by plane, fly to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW). It’s halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor and about 15 minutes from the conference center. There are a number of options for transportation from DTW to the Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest.

    Taxi

Transportation from the airport to the hotel and conference center is available by taxicab (about $60 one way). Cabs are located outside baggage claim. Metro Cab (734-997-6500) is the only official taxi service for the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

    Share-Ride Shuttle Service

A shared-ride shuttle service is available through Select Ride Airport Shuttle for about $37 one-way for one person. The rate per person is lower when you book for 2 or more people on the same ride. Call 866-663-8898, option 4 or 734-663-5959, option 4, to make a reservation at least two days in advance.

    Meet & Greet Private Car

A Meet & Greet Private Car service is also available from Select Ride Airport Shuttle. With this service the driver will meet you at baggage claim or international customs arrival. The cost for this service is $77 (domestic baggage claim including gratuity) or $87 (international customs arrival including gratuity). This service must be booked at least one week in advance by calling 866-663-8898, option 3 or 734-663-5959, option 3.
